About Helene

This provocative hour-long forum picks up where Women Working 2000 and Beyond left off. Taped live for television, Rocking the Barriers looks at some important questions. A diverse group—GenXers, baby boomers, and matures, women and men, from many ethnic and racial backgrounds—tackles the issues.
  • What stands in the way of advancement?
  • Career and family: How can we make it work?
  • What are the challenges faced by women of color?
  • What are corporations doing to keep talented women in their organization?
  • What do impatient women do when they’re not recognized?
  • How are working women handling stress?
  • What will it be like for the new generation of women entering the workforce?
Powerful stories are told on this show—real women and men rocking the barriers. Here's a quick sampling:

"I have a vivid memory of being the top salesperson at this corporation worldwide and having someone say, 'What will we do with her?' And so I did leave and I did start my own company. There are a group of us unwilling to wait."

"You don't have to leave to go to a smaller company, you don't have to become an entrepreneur, stay at those big companies if you want, and use that voice, use those other women around you to create the camaraderie and the team that the men did years ago."

In the end, the forum agrees there's much work to be done on all levels. As Helene remarks, "The policies and practices of corporations and institutions must continue to change, as we must change."
