About Helene

This special with Helene Lerner brings together over 100 professional women to talk about what’s on their minds. Helene gathers a diverse group of women in a New York studio—entrepreneurs and corporate employees, GenXers and baby boomers, from many ethnic and racial backgrounds—to share candid insights about the challenges of professional life.

  • What advances have women in the workforce made over the past 50 years?
  • We have more options than ever before, but what new challenges do we face?
  • Is it possible to balance family and career?
  • Are the fast-paced, fast-track lives we lead what we really want?
  • Is the glass ceiling opening or holding firm?
  • Are we stepping into leadership positions with confidence and strength?
  • Are we supporting each other in the workplace? Do we give back to other women?

There are no easy answers, but these quotes from the show suggest some possibilities.

"I started out at the grassroots level, I think my career was successful because people took the time to develop me, took time to sit down and talk about where I wanted to go, where I wanted to be. That's what I'm trying to do myself now. I'm in a position to do that for others."

"In our company, I spend a lot of time teaching young women here—how to run a meeting, how to train the people who work with them, just how to behave in a setting like this. I consider it one of my highest responsibilities."
